Legacy of Leadership and Randy Partee Scholarships
SAWA Conference Overview and Criteria
In good times and bad, the Society of Animal Welfare Administrators (SAWA) remains one of the best examples of how animal welfare industry professionals help each other, to learn, to do business together, to seize opportunities and face challenges. SAWA recognizes the critical importance of education and professional development for those in the animal welfare and animal care & control industries and we are pleased to offer these two scholarships honoring exceptional industry leaders.
Both SAWA Management and Annual Conferences are premier events where industry senior management meet and receive top notch education. It’s a gathering place for animal welfare professionals and also the place to join an effort to chart a forward course. If you are in the animal welfare industry, you need to be there too.
I want to contribute to the SAWA Scholarship Fund.
Who Should Apply?
Any SAWA member who is an executive or manager level that works for an animal welfare organization that shelters, fosters, or provides spay/neuter services for companion animals, or with municipal animal care and control agencies, who believes the Management or Annual Conference will help enhance their professional skills and abilities, and has a financial need.
SAWA will consider applicants who
- strive to attain a higher level of performance by participating in the SAWA Management or Annual Conference education sessions;
- strive to enhance their knowledge as an animal welfare professional, so they can in turn contribute to their organization and the profession as a whole;
- have been active recently in programs and services to help the animal welfare industry;
- complete and submit a scholarship application; and
- have not received a scholarship within the last year.
Please include your completed application, resume and a letter of support from your supervisor or President/CEO of your organization.
Note: Current members of the SAWA Board of Directors and family members are not eligible to receive this scholarship.
Description of Scholarships
Randy Partee Scholarship was established in recognition of Randy Partee, Vice President of Hill’s Pet Nutrition, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the animal welfare industry. Randy was instrumental in forging SAWA’s partnership with Hill’s and in launching the Shelter Nutrition Partnership program. He was a true friend of SAWA and the animal welfare community.
Legacy of Leadership Scholarship was established to honor those professionals who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership in animal welfare and animal care & control industries and to provide a means to help develop future leaders. The scholarship honors Gregory Bloomfield, Victoria Wellens and Richard Gerbasi.
These scholarships are intended to provide professional development opportunities for tomorrow’s leaders by providing funding for attendance at SAWA Conferences.
