7. Meets regularly with the board of directors or governing body to present reports and apprise them of important issues, problems and new ideas. Seeks their input and approval on salary reviews and annual budget. Assists the various committees with their specific assignments. Serves as liaison between the governing body and facility staff.

8. Represents the shelter as the chief spokesperson. Seeks out and maintains community contacts with government officials, agencies, civic groups, organizations, and the media. Attends pertinent workshops and seminars, maintains membership in professional organizations and networks with other executive directors.

9. Is responsible for the oversight of the organization’s fund raising programs. Fosters beneficial relationships with patrons, businesses and foundations. Is available to meet with potential donors to explain the shelter’s mission, philosophy and long-range plans. Provides opportunities for community support through volunteering and donations.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Development is expected to develop and implement a broad-based, comprehensive fundraising program to include major individual gifts, planned giving, corporate and foundation gifts. Specific responsibilities include: Enhance existing and establish new programs designed to secure both short- and long-range fundraising for the Center, including both annual and capitol campaign fundraising needs. CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate must be a proven professional in fund development who has successfully led comprehensive annual and capital development programs. Experience in fund development may have been gained in any type of not-for-profit organization however, an interest in animals is essential. Possessing a high energy level and love for fundraising, the Director of Development must be a persuasive and articulate advocate for the Center. She/he also must be highly intelligent, innovative, proactive, and results-oriented. The successful candidate must possess strong management, planning and organizational skills to work effectively with a small, growing not-for-profit and with hardworking, and passionate colleagues. Personal characteristics of collaboration, integrity and honesty are a given in this team-oriented environment. Experience in the cultivation and solicitation of major gifts is key, as are strong relationship-building, communication and motivational skills. Experience with the philanthropic community in central and west central Florida is ideal, but not mandatory.
