The Society of Animal Welfare Administrators is
very pleased to announce the selection of Maurine Dyer Stevens as
the organization’s first Executive Director, effective December 8,
2008.
Ms. Stevens has achieved executive leadership
success as CEO in a wide variety of membership associations,
charitable organizations and for-profit corporations. Her
achievements in these arenas are a result of her entrepreneurial
spirit and commitment to sound fiscal business practices and quality
services.
Her most recent engagements have been as interim
CEO for the Professionals in Human Resources Association, located in
El Segundo, California and the Foundation for Achievement through
Educational Success in Prescott Valley, AZ.
Stevens earned her Bachelor of Arts degree with
honors from Rocky Mountain College, Billings, Montana and now
resides in Surprise, AZ with her husband Jack and their four-legged
family member, Sebastian.
Stevens commented on what a privilege it is to be
selected as the first SAWA Executive Director and to partner with
industry leaders to further expand a cause about which she feels so
passionate, noting that “Helping SAWA in its quest to preserve the
intrinsic dignity and sanctity of animal life is a tremendous
opportunity.”
The Society of Animal Welfare Administrators is
currently comprised of over 500 individual members throughout North
America under the leadership of Cal Morgan, President of the Board
of Directors, who also serves as the President and CEO of the
Michigan Humane Society. SAWA’s mission is to advocate humane ideals
through professional advancement and support of leaders in animal
